My name is Greg Tyler and here is my story of God’s grace in my life…

Wow, if this happened 2000 years ago…

My name is Greg Tyler and I am from Laingsburg, Michigan.  On December 24, 2002, I was 42 years old, single, and never married with no children.  My parents would go south for the winter and my two brothers and two sisters all had their own families.  It left me free to enjoy every Christmas break by myself in a cabin in Northern Michigan with my favorite pair of rabbit dogs and hundreds of acres of swamp to pursue the sport that I enjoyed very much.  I really looked forward to this time each year.

On this particular day I happened across a movie on T.V., “Jesus of Nazareth”, I watched the whole thing; it was eight hours long.  I found this story very compelling, even though I wasn’t brought up in the church.  At the end of the movie I sat there thinking, wow, if this happened 2,000 years ago and it still has such an impact on our society today, this must of really happened.  Jesus Christ came into this world and died for our sins even though he was innocent.  The scripture says, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor. 5:21).  He rose again in three days to conquer death, wow!

1 Cor. 15:3-4 says, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures”.

That night as I lay awake in my bed the Spirit of God came upon me.  It was as if I was in an x-ray machine.  It started at my head and went slowly to my feet!  I immediately raised my hands into the air and said, “Lord, I’m yours”.  The next day I woke up and things were different.  I knew I had lived a life of sin and I could no longer keep living that way to please myself.  The bible says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may  have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon”. (Isaiah 55:7)
I began living my life for Christ trying to please him.  Suddenly, I was reading scripture and amazed by the remarkable truth that was being proclaimed.  After I came home from my trip the people that knew me best could see that I was no longer swearing, I was carrying a Bible, and attending a Bible-believing church.  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away, behold, the new has come”. (2 Cor. 5:17)

It was only by God’s grace that he revealed the truth to me.  “For by grace you have been saved through faith.  And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast”. (Eph. 2:8-9).

I am still amazed at why he picked me, but I am also very thankful!  I want everyone to know that there is hope, eternal life through Jesus Christ!  Jesus himself said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.  He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life”. (John 5:24).

Six months into my journey when I was praying, I would always pray for others that God would reveal himself to them, because I had a decent job and a nice home.  I felt I was lacking in nothing, and then it occurred to me, I never had a wife and a family of my own.  I prayed that night for a wife.  Two days later I was attending my nephew’s little league baseball game and as I was sitting in the stands next to me was a very attractive lady that I had never seen before.  We started talking and I first proclaimed to her that I was a born again Christian and that I had been convicted to live a life of obedience to Jesus Christ.  Well, wouldn’t you know she had the same beliefs also.  She had three precious little boys and was in a situation where her husband had left and divorced her.

Six months later we were married and after three years, and of course even though it wasn’t the perfect situation “split family”, I wouldn’t trade one day of it!  We are expecting our first child together, a little girl.  We are growing as a family in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ every day!

My prayer is that if you’re reading this and you can see how someone as plain and sinful as me can be pulled from the grasp of the evil one and be truly regenerated into a new creation, a life of obedience to Christ, that there is hope for everyone to be saved.  1 Timothy 2:3-4 says, “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”.

The only thing special about me is that Jesus took off my blinders and now I can see the truth!  I was blind but now I can see. (John 9:25).

God Bless All!
